Unfortunately, the rule is still valid. Condo and association covenants do not vary based on the societal changes that go on around them.

There are numerous analogs to the situation you describe — rules that govern the size and shape of bathing suits that must be worn at the pool, rules that restrict xeriscaping, rules creating curfews, and even rules governing political signs. Unless the rule discriminates against a constitutionally protected class of persons (and pickup owners are not such a class), it will be valid, forever, until amended by the owners.

Unfortunately, even though pickups can be expensive and fancy, that doesn't mean that people will accept trucks into their community. These days, custom motorcycles can cost tens of thousands of dollars, but many communities restrict them, as well.

One quick note, however — all condo and association covenants are very dependent on the exact language used. We've seen arbitration decisions where pickups have been allowed when the rule banned "trucks," but allowed passenger vehicles, with the argument being that the particular type of pickup in question was not the type of truck prohibited by the covenant.
